I recently read a blog about someone who has decided to eliminate one "thing" (think extra doo-dads, clothing, clutter) every day for a year to simplify and streamline their space. Having eliminated quite a bit over the last few years, I'm not sure I could find 365 things - unless I started counting each piece of paper as a thing - but I'm going to shoot for 3 things a week. Starting September 1st, I will eliminate 150 things from our little cottage. And, yes, it might get to the point where I have to count each paper or file, but the challenge is more about keeping an open mind and open eyes.
Wish me luck!

Spring foliage flown
Warm sparks of autumn a memory,
now beautiful in cool simplicity
Free of leafy distractions
the strong and experienced branches
Allow for further vistas; field, stream, sky
How like the winter of my life
And looking closely, I notice the buds of new life
In my heart, and on the cool, simple branches.
